Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Carly “Charli” Scott.
The 27-year-old Maui woman was five months pregnant when she vanished. Family members say they last saw her in Haiku. Her torched sport-utility vehicle was later found on Maui’s north shore.
On Monday, they gathered by the road where Scott was last reported to be alive and paid tribute to her and her unborn child.
“Things have come a long way for us as far as Charli’s case. We’re very satisfied with that and the people who have worked so hard to get us to this point,” said Scott’s mother, Kimberlyn Scott. “She is still out here somewhere and it’s kind of a crazy thing to come to a roadside place and put flowers.”
“Once we feel like we have a sense of justice for Charli, it would be nice to have another place to go to do this,” said sister Brooke Scott.
Maui police arrested Scott’s ex-boyfriend, Stephen Capobianco, in connection with the case.
He pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and arson charges and continues to await trial.
