Honolulu firefighters responded a two-alarm call Thursday night of a structure fire on Iliaina Street in Kailua.

The first unit arrive at 11:54 p.m. to find a one-story single-family dwelling with smoke and flames emanating from the garage area of the structure.

“It escalated very quickly,” said neighbor Ruth Hanlon. “Flames shooting up above the roof. A neighbor called and told them to get out and, thankfully, they were able to get out safely.

One person out of the family of three that were in the house suffered minor injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 12:08 a.m. Friday and fully extinguished by 12:58 a.m.

The fire is under investigation and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The house is considered a total loss and damage estimates are at least $500,000, including to a vehicle and boat, and heat damage to neighboring homes.
