A portion of Diamond Head Road has reopened Friday and the power’s now back on for 300 Hawaiian Electric customers after a tree fell on power lines.
But it was a different story for much of the morning. A large kiawe tree came crashing down at around 2:30 a.m. It made quite the noise, waking up Leslie Disney who lives nearby.
She came outside and saw a fire. “I was shaking,” she said. “I was really shaking, because it was sparking over my house, and going into my yard. So I thought something was going to catch on fire.”
Disney said the fire department got there fast and was able to put out the fire within minutes.
There was no damage and no injuries from the fallen tree.
Hawaiian Electric crews cut down the tree and restored power to most customers at about 7:15 a.m. in the Kapahulu, Diamond Head and Kahala areas.
