Equipment problem triggers power outage for thousands from Kakaako to Iwilei

Thousands were left in the dark Thursday night due to a power outage that spanned parts of Ala Moana Boulevard and Nimitz Highway.

Residents from Ala Moana, Ward, and Kakaako to downtown Honolulu and even Iwilei were affected, including developments like Keauhou Place and The Collection, which encompasses hundreds of units.

Hawaiian Electric tells us an equipment problem caused the outage.

Crews are working to restore power. We’re told everything should be back online by around 11 p.m.
