East Oahu rescues keep ocean safety busy


A 55-year-old man is in critical condition after being found unresponsive in waters off East Oahu.

Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to Makapuu Beach Park about noon Monday to a report of an unresponsive man.

With the help of Good Samaritans, Ocean Safety brought the man to shore and began medical treatment. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services took over with advanced life support treatment including cardio pulmonary resuscitation and transported the visitor to a trauma center in critical condition.

About an hour later, Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to a report of three missing scuba divers near Hanauma Bay.

The two females and one male had last been seen in the area of Witches Brew. Ocean Safety responded and rescued all three, bringing them to shore safely.
