DLNR enforces size, net limits for fishing

The Department of Land and Natural Resources is tasked with managing the Hawaiian waters when it comes to fishing.

It’s serious when it comes to enforcement of size limits when fishing for certain species of fish. Just this past Sunday a Windward Oahu man was cited for catching undersized fish, and for also having an illegal amount of net.

The DLNR also enforces net limits when it’s comes to fishing as well. Just last year a fisherman got into serious trouble for laying more than 1,500 feet of net in Kahana Bay. That illegal net was discovered by a spear fisherman. The man was sentenced to jail time.

The state often has public meetings to adjust or tweak size and bag limits.
