Crews extinguish two-alarm fire at vacant cottage on Kalani High School grounds

Firefighters extinguished a two-alarm building fire at Kalani High School Wednesday afternoon.

The alarm came in at 2:54 p.m. from 4682 Kalanianaole Highway.

Eleven fire companies staffed with 43 personnel responded.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from a single-story home near the campus entrance.

The fire was brought under control by 3:28 p.m.

The Department of Education says the home was a custodian’s cottage that sat vacant on campus.

No one lives there and no one was inside at the time.

The fire is under investigation and a cause has yet to be determined.

All westbound lanes were initially blocked off. One lane was opened at around 4 p.m. All lanes were open by 5:30 p.m.
