Crash victim in court as suspect accused of racing on Tantalus pleads not guilty

A man accused of crashing into a bicyclist on Tantalus Drive pleaded not guilty to negligent injury Thursday.

On Jan. 25, police say Taylor Liang, 20, was drifting and racing with another car when he lost control and hit a champion triathlete who was training at the time.

Lectie Altman had to undergo multiple surgeries since the incident and still needs crutches to get around.

Altman was in the courtroom during Liang’s appearance, and spoke to us after his hearing.

“I think it was just important for me to be here, because this happened nine months ago and it’s been a long time coming, and I think it was important for him to see that there is a lot of people that care about this case,” she said.

Liang’s trial is set for Dec. 31.

He remains free on $25,000 bail.
