Catamaran runs aground on reef near Ala Wai Boat Harbor

A 38-foot catamaran is expected to be stuck near Ala Wai Boat Harbor overnight Sunday after running aground on a reef.

Honolulu firefighters say the vessel ran into trouble a little before 8 p.m. near the Bowls surfing spot with 16 people on board, including two children.

The catamaran is used to take passengers on cruises.

Firefighters believe the crew of the vessel missed a buoy marker, mistakenly leading it into shallow waters during a low tide.

No injuries were reported. No word when the boat is expected to be removed.
