The University of Hawaii football team was back on the turf of Clarence T.C. Ching Field in Manoa Tuesday after a nine-day hiatus for spring break.

The Rainbow Warriors strapped on shoulder pads for the first time this spring following a long playbook installation period on Monday.

“There’s a little spring break hangover,” head coach Nick Rolovich said. “Especially offensively, some mistakes like I told the guys. They were very dialed in the first three days. There was some rust from spring break, especially on the stuff we reviewed from the first few days. We had a big install last night with some good learning on film.”

The Rainbow Warrior offense was singled out by Rolovich after practice. Hawaii is still implementing a new offense in the run-and-shoot.

“The defense came with some great energy and made some plays in kind of the team period,” Rolovich added. “Moved the ball early and then the defense kind of found their groove. We took a couple of sacks we shouldn’t have taken that got us out of field-goal range, but I appreciate the effort.”

The Rainbow Warriors will return to the practice field Thursday at 6 a.m. in Manoa. All spring practices are open to the public.
