This is the 50th anniversary of the Kalakaua Basketball Clinic founded by coach Dennis Agena.

At the Moanalua High School gym Sunday, he and his staff received a proclamation from state Senator Donna Mercado Kim.

“I’m proud of all the kids. You develop them. You mentor them. You see them grow up. They get married. They have families. They have kids. And I think it will soon be my third generation of coaching their kids,” said Agena.

Thousands of students have taken his popular clinic over the years learning skills, team-building and values like respect and humility. Noted basketball players like Bobby Nash, Derrick Low, and Nani Cockett have been through his clinic.

Coach Agena’s mission is to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble.
