Authentic Japanese Kabuki will return to Hawaii for the first time since 1967 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Honolulu Festival (honolulufestival.com) and the 150th anniversary of the first organized Japanese group to immigrate to Hawaii, also referred to as “Gannenmono.”
Six performances are scheduled for March 2-7 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Kennedy Theatre, which is one of the few venues outside of Japan with a stage built to accommodate Kabuki, and the final performance will take place at the Hawaii Convention Center on March 8th, during the Honolulu Festival. The shows will be in Japanese with English translation for all audiences to enjoy.
Tickets are $80-$100. Showtimes, additional information and tickets are available at https://www.jtbbwt.com/entertainmenttour/hawaiikabuki/en/ (or just search “Kabuki in Hawaii 2019”).
