A new audit has found major problems within the agency that licenses Hawaii’s care homes.
It says the office of health care assurance was renewing licenses for care homes even though there were deficiencies found
Or worse yet it, it issued licenses without even inspecting or visiting a facility.
Deficences include not enough caregivers, mislabeled medication, or giving a medication without approval from a doctor.
In response to the audit, the Department of Health which oversees the office of health care assurance said what the audit found does not reflect conditions today and it has taken steps to address the problems.
