Honolulu Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Kalihi that happened around 1:30 a.m.
The suspect’s vehicle was initially weaving along King Street.
Three police vehicles encountered the suspect and tried to pull him over by Farrington High School but the suspect did not stop.
Police were able to surround and stop the vehicle at the intersection of Kapalama Avenue and Hala Drive.
The adult male drove straight at one of the officers with his vehicle, leading the officer to shoot the suspect in the left, upper torso.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are unsure at this time whether alcohol or drugs were factors in this incident.
HPD has not yet identified the suspect but told us that he is a 51-year-old male with twelve prior convictions, including one felony for terroristic threatening.
The officer involved has eight years of service. He has been placed on administrative leave.
The intersection is now reopened.
