Any day is a great day at the world-class Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island.
But if you go on a Monday, at around 10:30 a.m., look for retired Air Force Col. Ed Jurkens among the flying machines he came to know well in World War II.
Jurkens spent his adult life in service in the military, and after retiring, decades of volunteer work with a handful of non-profits.
Twelve years ago, Jurkens told a docent one of his stories during a visit to the museum. That docent asked him to volunteer, and now, he gladly shares what he never really talked about before.
And at 100 years old, he’s not done yet.
