Kathy Muneno loves telling stories about life in the islands.

In addition to KHON2’s extensive coverage on Hokulea – her husband is master navigator and Polynesian Voyaging Society president Nainoa Thompson – some of Kathy’s favorite reports involved going to the taro fields of Kauai to talk about the state of the poi industry and the challenges farmers face, and meeting a family who raises alpacas on Hawaii Island.

“I love the television medium, being able to use pictures and sound in addition to your spoken word to tell a story,” she says.

One story hit close to home, literally, when Kathy was sent to cover a house fire. “A few years prior, I had lost my house to fire, and so it was quite emotional as it brought back those memories, but also gave me a huge amount of empathy for the family who lost theirs,” she says.

The proud graduate of Kaiser High School and University of Hawaii at Manoa is a television news veteran with more than 18 years of experience.

When she isn’t working, “I love running, exercising, going to movies, but the bulk of my time is spent chasing after my twins!”
