HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two young baseball teams celebrated bittersweet victories this weekend.

KRU Baseball’s 10-under and 11-under teams were in California to compete in the Cal Ripken Pacific Southwest regional tournament when one of the players suffered a horrible family tragedy.

Bronson Rivera, his wife Kristy and two of their three boys were driving on Highway 43 in Fresno when their SUV was hit by an oncoming semi-truck.

The couple’s other son Jayden was traveling in another vehicle. The crash killed Jayden’s 2-year-old brother, Liam, and their mother was hospitalized. Following the crash, the teams dedicated their games to Liam.

With the support of each other, their families, and other teams in the tournament, Jayden’s 10-under team won the tournament, as did the 11-under team.

The teams ask their supporters to help the Rivera family during this difficult time.

Relatives have set up a Go Fund Me page to help the family.
