Changes are coming to Windward Mall.

Plans are currently underway to expand one of the mall’s anchor retail stores, as well as unveil a new indoor children’s play area.

Sports Authority will take over the spaces previously occupied by The Children’s Place, Little People Hawaii and an indoor play area, increasing its retail space to 38,804 square feet.

The expansion is scheduled to be complete this fall.

For families, a new children’s play area sponsored by HMSA is in the works for children up to 42″ tall.

The new play area will be located in the lower level, Macy’s wing fronting Big City Diner. It will feature an underwater theme and include a coral stack for children to climb on, a dolphin and waterfall ramp to slide, and a fish tank.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by spring 2016.

Sports Authority will remain open during the expansion, however the mall’s current play area fronting Sports Authority is now closed for repairs and will not reopen.
