The Department of Water has scheduled a water shutdown on Thursday, Jan. 15, for Kauai customers located on the western side of Wawae Road in Kalaheo, between Pu’uwai Road and Kikala Road.
Water will be turned off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting, to allow the DOW’s contractor to connect a new water line to Kalaheo’s water system.
The DOW is notifying affected customers door-to-door Tuesday.
Affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs during the outage.
- Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the outage.
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the outage.
- Drive with caution and allow extra travel time while driving through the area.
The DOW will provide a water buffalo for essential water needs during the scheduled shutdown. The water buffalo will be located on Wawae Road, near the Pu’uwai intersection. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
After the connection is completed and the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed into the water, causing it to appear white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the water will eventually dissipate.
