Improvements will soon be coming to Kewalo Basin Harbor.
The Hawaii Community Development Authority selected Ward Village to revitalize two lots surrounding the harbor.
Over the past year, developer The Howard Hughes Corp. has been working closely with HCDA and the local community to develop a master plan.
“This partnership will allow us to bring much-needed repairs and upgrades to the Kewalo facilities while also creating a stronger connection between Kewalo Harbor, Ala Moana Beach Park and the nearby areas,” said Todd Apo, vice president of community development for Ward Village.
Improvements for the two parcels of land surrounding the harbor are designed to support and drive business to tenants, including the addition of a sundry store, increased access to and from Ala Moana Beach Park, additional parking and more, officials said.
In addition to upgrades that have already been made to harbor security, landscaping and marketing, Ward Village will soon begin dock renovations with a local contractor to boat slips and harbor facilities.
“Ward Village’s plans for Kewalo will bring to life the two areas around the harbor that for decades have been inactive and unattractive to the boaters and visitors to this area,” said John Eveleth, Kewalo Harbormaster.
Kewalo Basin Harbor is home to more than 70 small businesses, ranging from recreational ocean activities to commercial fishing boats.
