Waipahu Street reopened after car knocks down utility pole

Police have reopened a portion of Waipahu Street after Hawaiian Electric crews replaced a downed utility pole.

The pole was hit by a car at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the driver initially fled the scene and was found in the nearby bushes.

Waipahu Street was closed from Waikele Road to Waipahu Depot Road, and city buses were rerouted.

The road was reopened at around 8:40 a.m.
