HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received an emergency call on Jan. 14, around 2:21 a.m., for a building fire, on Kaiolena Drive in Kailua.
Honolulu firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:31 a.m. to find a single-family home, under construction, in flames.
A nearby neighbor Scott Whiting shared his reaction to the Lanikai home fire early Friday morning.
I saw a glow and haze…figure it was a house fire and called 911,” said Whiting. They already received a call. No fire trucks, but ten minutes later a fire truck arrived. The flames were really big. Biggest house fire I ever seen. Maybe 40 feet above the house — the flames were going. Man, once it went through the roof it was gone.”
The fire was extinguished by 4:02 a.m. According to HFD, there were no occupants at the time of the incident or injuries reported.
HFD fire investigator was called to the scene and will determine the cause of the fire.
