A trial date has been set for Randall Saito, the man who escaped from the Hawaii State Hospital last November.
Saito pled not guilty to identity theft and escape at a hearing Thursday morning.
The attorney general says Saito used someone else’s identity to facilitate his escape when he chartered a plane to Maui, then flew to California. He was caught days later.
The trial will begin in July.
Escape in the Second Degree is a class C felony and carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine. Identity Theft in the First Degree is a class A felony and carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $50,000.00 fine.
Saito is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
