St. Francis gets first male head of school

Local News

For the first time in 94 years, a man will be head of school at St. Francis.

Dr. Casey Asato, 46, was selected as the new head of school after a nationwide search.  He will succeed Sister Joan of Arc Souza, who stepped down in June after 27 years.

Asato, who has been Director of Curriculum at Seabury Hall on Maui since 2012, ushers in a new era for St. Francis.

He will be the first person to lead the school who is not a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities.

“My vision for St. Francis would be a world class college preparatory school in which students are pursuing their interests, they’re engaged with their learning and they find meaning and purpose through their contributions to society,” Asato said.

Asato has 25 years of experience in education.  He has Masters Degrees in Social Studies from Columbia University and in Asian Studies from UH Manoa.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University.
