Ruby Tuesday Hawaii will close its Ala Moana location on Jan. 13, after its 10-year lease expires.
Local owners Ted Davenport and Rick Nakashima said they tried unsuccessfully to renegotiate their lease with General Growth Properties.
“GGP was asking for increased rent at a time when our customers are being inconvenienced due to the ongoing major construction,” the restaurant said in a press release.
Ruby Tuesday Hawaii currently operates six locations on Oahu and Maui.
When the Ala Moana restaurant closes, its 65 employees will be relocated and absorbed within the company’s four other Oahu locations in Moanalua, Windward Mall, Mililani and Kapolei.
“This will make us stronger as a corporation. We strengthen our employee pool and although shrinking our gross, we increase our profits per location and decrease our exposure and occupancy costs,” said Nakashima.
