Rice-lovers lined up in the sweltering heat Saturday for dishes inspired by the little white grain.
The 6th annual Rice Fest featured more than 20 vendors in the parking lot at Ward Village.
The festival featured food demonstrations, entertainment, cooking competitions, poke bowl and spam musubi eating contests. It was all to celebrate and enhance appreciation for rice.
“One of my favorites is probably the crab cake risotto, it’s deep friend in panko and tomato sauce on it. They have shave ice with mochi balls, of course that’s good on a hot day like this,” said Rice Fest co-founder Edward Sugimoto.
The rice fest also aims to raise funds, rice donations and awareness for Lanakila Meals on Wheels, which serves Hawaii’s hungry seniors.
