Retired police major sentenced in connection with jogger death

Local News

A retired Honolulu police major was sentenced Wednesday in connection with the death of a jogger last year.

Charles Duncan was given five years probation by a judge. He could have faced that same amount of time in prison.

Police say that in February 2015, Duncan was driving in Mililani when he made a turn and hit 49-year-old Shari Afuso, who was in a marked crosswalk on Kuahelani Avenue. She later died of her injuries.

Duncan had been initially charged with negligent homicide.
