Starting Thursday, Nov. 1, the community swimming pool at Pearl City District Park will close for nearly a year.
Officials say an extensive renovation project is necessary to address several issues and upgrades.
Work includes addressing concrete spalling, replacing pool equipment, re-plastering the swimming pool, re-tiling the training pool, upgrading the pool drainage, installing new ceramic tile lane markers, replacing the pump room concrete deck, and installing a new chain link fence.
The nearly $972,000 contract was awarded to Global Specialty Contractors. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
Pool facilities at Manana Neighborhood Park and Waikele Community Park are scheduled to remain open during these closures.
The pool at Waipahu District Park remains closed after an initial capital improvement project, now finished, uncovered an electric issue that will require additional repairs. A contractor for this work has not yet been selected.
