A baby monk seal and her mother are nursing on a Big Island beach.
The female pup was born on February 8 to mom RA20.
The pup was named Manu’iwa after the frigate bird that glides over water and flies for long distances.
This is the first pup for RA20, who is the granddaughter of well-known monk seal “Honey Girl”.
The Marine Mammal Center’s response team is keeping a close eye on them to make sure they’re not disturbed during the coming weeks.
That’s why they’re not revealing the exact location of the beach.
Mother monk seals are known to get aggressive if anyone comes near her pup.
If you happen to see them, officials urge you to give them space.
