HONOLULU (KHON2) — There was a power outage impacting the Waikapu area on Maui.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. Monday, May 2.

Hawaiian Electric crews on Maui responded and assessed the cause of the outage.
HECO said about 3,000 customers in the Waikapu area and some parts of Wailuku were without power.
There was an outage when an automatic electric switch along Waiale Road, opened and automatically shut off power in the area to protect the system, according to a HECO representative.
Power was restored to all customers by 7:40 p.m.

HECO said the cause of the recloser opening is being looked into.
