Portion of Dole Street reopened after crews fix water main break

Dole Street Water Main Break

Board of Water Supply crews have reopened a portion of Dole Street that had been closed due to a water main break.

The main break was reported at approximately 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning and initially cut water service to residents and businesses in St. Louis Heights, Wilhelmina, Palolo, Diamond Head and Kaimuki.

Area residents are being allowed to use water as normal.

“We finally reached the pipe. They’re excavating around the pipe. There is another water line that’s actually really close so we have to be careful,” said Ernest Lau, Chief Engineer for BWS.

BWS said it was initially difficult to determine who was impacted and how many, because the transmission main feeds different reservoirs.

We’re told the pipe that broke is 90 years old.

BWS says the last time a pipe broke in this area was four years ago due to corrosion.
