Police urge witnesses to come forward after man murdered in Waipahu

Local News

Honolulu police and CrimeStoppers urge any witnesses to Sunday’s deadly shooting in Waipahu to come forward.

According to police, officers responded to Waipahu Street at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honolulu medical examiner identified the victim as Sonny Leopoamo, 28. His death was ruled a homicide.

“At this time, the suspect still remains at large and that’s why we ask for the public’s help,” said Sgt. Chris Kim of CrimeStoppers. “It’s a business area. In the event that you were driving through or visiting one of those establishments, you may have seen something. However small you think it may be, just give us a tip and let the investigators work with it.”

Waipahu Street was closed overnight from Waipahu Depot Road to Puamano Place as police opened a murder investigation and examined the scene.
