Police open murder investigation after body found in vehicle

Local News

Honolulu Police have now found two bodies in nearly the same place, just weeks apart. Investigators were back out in Wahiawa Wednesday morning and this time they’ve opened a murder investigation. Police believe both deaths are connected.

Police responded to a 911 call at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and found a man’s body in a stolen vehicle. There are suspicious circumstances. It appears the man may have been shot.

The body and stolen vehicle were recovered near a coffee farm off Kamehameha Highway. About two weeks ago and less than 50 yards away, a woman visiting from California was injured when a man standing in the middle of the road fired a shot as she was driving. Police found the suspect dead, with a gunshot wound to his head.

Family members have identified that man as Dallas Kaahanui. Since his death, his family’s questioned the investigation.

“Rather than try to rule immediately as a suicide, do the police work. Do the police work. It might be a little leg work but they need to do their job and investigate. What arose? Who was he with that night? Why was he not with the car that he would never leave out of his possesion? You know, there’s too many questions that the family had not have answers to,”  said Kaahanui’s mother Kim.

The body that was found Wednesday morning was decomposed, police have not released an identification at this time.
