Poi Dogs and Popoki assumes city’s spay and neuter contract

Local News

The Hawaiian Humane Society is no longer offering its Neuter Now program.

That’s because the city has awarded its spay and neuter contract to a different organization.

Poi Dogs and Popoki will now be issuing the certificates.

The cost remains the same: $40 for a male cat, $50 for a female cat, $125 for a male dog and $150 for a female dog.

If you’ve already bought certificates from the humane society, you can still use them at a humane-society-approved veterinarian within three months of the date of purchase.

“Neuter Now was created to provide more affordable options for people to spay and neuter their pets. Through The Big Fix now, through our role with the contract, it’s a collaborative effort to give people more choices,” said Poi Dogs and Popoki president Alicia Maluafiti.

Residents seeking access to the spay and neuter program may still purchase the discount certificates from any Satellite City Hall location on Oahu. Certificates may be purchased directly from Poi Dogs and Popoki’s mobile spay and neuter clinic or, as a new option, online here.

The cost of the certificate includes a pre-surgery exam, sterilization surgery including anesthesia, removal of stitches if necessary, and any post-surgery complications that might arise within 24 hours of the surgery.

Additional services may not be covered by the cost of the certificate and covered services may vary by veterinarian.
