The Honolulu Police Dept. reports that a pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning along Kamehameha Highway, a quarter-of-a-mile south of Pohaku Loa Way between Haleiwa and Waimea Valley.
The call came in at 2:05 a.m. of an adult male motorist from Haleiwa driving north on the highway, veering off the roadway and striking the pedestrian.
The driver was not injured, and while speed is a possible factor in the accident, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor as well.
There is no identification of the victim. The investigation into the accident continues.
This is the 40th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 48 the same time last year.
