Military celebrated with Na Koa Wounded Warrior Canoe Regatta, job fair

Hawaii’s Wounded Warriors will take center stage this weekend at the 6th annual Na Koa Wounded Warrior Canoe Regatta.

The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 22, fronting the beach at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki.

The open ocean sporting event is part of the annual Duke’s OceanFest, and affords Wounded Warriors, active duty, reserve and National Guard canoe paddling teams the opportunity to compete in various divisions in the spirit of athletics and camaraderie.

“What events like this will provide is that insight to especially some guys who are severely wounded that haven’t been provided the opportunity or thought they couldn’t paddle a canoe, they can paddle a canoe,” said retired Staff Sgt. Thomas Lee, who is a leg amputee.

Thursday, Aug. 20: Na Koa Reception, Hale Koa Hotel

Friday, Aug. 21: Hawaii Warriors Job Fair, Hale Koa Hotel

Thirty-nine employers and veterans service organizations, seminars on resume preparation and interview techniques, free legal services for veterans. Open to all military, veterans and spouses. Admission is free, but you must register online here.

Saturday, Aug. 22: Na Koa Wounded Warrior Regatta, Fort DeRussy Beach
