Mayor proclaims National Emergency Services Week to appreciate EMS

Mayor Caldwell proclaimed this week as National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, in Honolulu. 

It is a nationally recognized week to appreciate paramedics and emergency medical technicians for the life saving work they perform daily. 

There was a ceremony held on Monday, fronting Honolulu Hale to kick off the week. 

As part of the ceremony, a Waimanalo resident who collapsed in the Hawaii Kai Costco parking lot last month, got a chance to thank the EMS crew who revived her. 

EMS also thanked a good samaritan who stepped in to help restrain an aggressive patient earlier this year. 

According to EMS, they responded to 95,000, 911 calls last year. 

Also on Kauai, a ceremony was held at the Lihue Civic Center.

Mayor Kawakami, along with Council Chair Arryl Kaneshiro honored vital members of Kauai’s EMS.
