The Maui Police Dept. announced Monday that a suspect wanted for attempted arson was located and arrested Saturday.
At about 1:37 a.m. Feb. 6, Wailuku patrol officers arrested Brandon Oania , 32, from Kahului, for Arson in the First Degree (Attempted).
Oania was charged for the crime and bail was set at $50,000. At about 10:39 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, Oania was released to District Court.
On Friday, Feb. 5, at 3:32 a.m., Wailuku patrol officers responded to 16 Hobron Avenue in Kahului for a report of an arson in progress.
Maui Oil Company workers observed Oania pouring motor oil on the gas tanks.
He attempted to light the oil on fire. The employees yelled Oania who fled on foot towards Hana Highway. Officers canvassed the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him then.
