The Hawaii Public Housing Authority has selected a master developer to transform the site of its administrative offices on N. School Street.
Retirement Housing Foundation from Long Beach, Calif. will turn the site into affordable housing, commercial buildings and new administrative offices.
The redevelopment is intended to introduce creative physical designs, building and unit configurations and sustainable building materials that maximize the use of space and can be a model for future developments.
“We will incorporate out-of-the-box thinking, working with the neighborhood and using central planning design ensuring that all have input and we can all build a project that it will support,” said Dr. Laverne Joseph, president and CEO of Retirement Housing Foundation.
Hawaii Public Housing Authority hopes this new development will help better service its clients on a timely basis and reduce the roughly 20,000 people currently on its wait lists.
“The HPHA’s partnership with the selected master developer team will catalyze public and private investment to create a vibrant mixed income community and increase affordable rental housing options in our state,” said HPHA executive director Hakim Ouansafi.
