The Kauai man accused of stabbing his mother to death at her place of work has been found not guilty by mental disease, disorder, or defect — also known as not guilty by reason of insanity.
He will be committed to the state hospital where he will remain until it is determined he can come into the community for conditional release.
Police say in May of last year, Louis Landsman walked into the First Hawaiian Bank in Lihue, and used a large hunting knife to stab his mom, 68-year-old Charlene Landsman.
He then fled on foot.
His mom was taken to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police later located Louis in the bank’s parking lot where they arrested him.
