HONOLULU (KHON2) — A homicide investigation is underway after a 37-year-old man was fatally shot near Hakimo Road and Kaukai Road shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the incident began with an argument between the victim and the suspect. The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Amador G. Borce who allegedly shot the victim and took off.

Police arrested Borce at approximately 4:45 a.m. for alleged second-degree murder in connection with the shooting but he has not yet been charged.

A woman at the scene said she heard an argument but no gunshots; she found the victim unresponsive on the dirt ground. The victim was taken to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

Another woman who lives in the area said she knew the victim and explained that he was a good guy who had a little girl who was trying to get his life back in order. She had no idea why he was shot.

Brendan Torres lives nearby and said he heard yelling and later saw police driving down his street, but he did not think much of it.

“I seen couple cruisers coming up and down the road, and my cousin told me there’s something going on but I didn’t come outside,” Torres said. “I didn’t know that was going on.”

Torres, who grew up in the neighborhood, said it is not a safe place to be outside after dark.

“There’s a lot of crazy stuff that goes on on this road,” Torres added. “It’s not a nice road, honestly.”

This incident is not the first time someone was shot in the neighborhood.

In May, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot around 1:30 a.m. just a few blocks away. In September 2020, 28-year-old Kason Tiave was fatally shot along Hakimo Road; two men were arrested in connection with that murder.

Torres recalled the previous shooting and said he knew the victim.

“The shooting up the road — that was pretty nuts,” Torres said.
