On March 30, 2019, at about 1:10 A.M. a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Likelike Highway and Kahekili Highway in the Kaneohe Area.
A 29-year-old Kaneohe male and his passenger a 24-year-old Kaneohe female were traveling northbound on Kahekili Highway at a high rate of speed.
The 29-year-old Kaneohe male disregarded a red traffic signal and traveled into the intersection of Likelike Highway and Kahekili Highway where he broadsided a vehicle being operated by a 27-year-old Mililani male who was traveling westbound on Likelike Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 27-year-old Mililani male’s vehicle was then overturned before coming to final rest.
The 27-year-old Mililani male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.
The 24-year-old Kaneohe female sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene of the collision.
The 29-year-old Kaneohe male was arrested for Negligent Homicide in the 1st degree , OVUII, and Criminal Contempt.
At this time speed and alcohol, both appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 15th traffic fatality of this year compared to 15 at the same time in 2018.
The investigation is ongoing.
