A man charged with murdering his uncle appeared in court Tuesday, and the presiding judge determined that he is not fit to stand trial.
Samuela Mataele has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Family members said he has a history of mental instability.
Police said Mataele shot his 66-year-old uncle in the head, then threatened to shoot another person last year.
He was captured after a seven-hour manhunt and later charged with second-degree murder, first-degree terroristic threatening and a firearm violation.
Mataele’s case will go up for review in September.
