It’s a big day for many people here in Hawaii as we celebrate Chinese New Year.
This is the year of the monkey, and earlier Monday, there were several lion dances at Queen Emma Preschool and Hawaii Baptist Academy.
Preschool director Susan Okoga said “it was great. The children loved it. Everyone was here giving and (wishing) good luck for the rest of the year. It was just a wonderful, first hand experience for them.”
A Chinese New Year tradition many people also take part in is handing children lai see, or money in red envelopes, as well as eating the sticky brown confection known as gau with the family.
