State lawmakers are being asked to sign off on the sale of a property in Kakaako for a new wastewater facility.
A public hearing will be held Tuesday on a resolution to approve the sale of land on Forrest Avenue and Ala Moana Boulevard.
The land is owned by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the buyer would be the City and County of Honolulu.
According to the Senate resolution, the market value of the land is $29.6 million.
The primary purpose would be to build a major pump station and/or other wastewater facility to increase system capacity to service Kakaako.
One neighborhood board member says a new facility is necessary, because the area is growing.
“We should have built this a while back, and I think the general public won’t be as happy to hear this news in this area where people pay a lot of money to live, but it’s much needed in our area,” said Ron Komine Jr.
OHA needs approval from the legislature to move forward with the sale.
More than a dozen senators have already signed off on it.
