Keiki enjoy ‘snow day’ at Central Union Church

Local News

Dozens of young keiki got to experience a winter wonderland Friday at Central Union Church Preschool and Kindergarten.

The “snow” is actually 15 tons of finely chopped ice, donated by Unitek Solvent Services.

For many children, this annual snow day event marks their first experience with snow.

Dressed in winter attire, they spent the morning making snow angels and building snowmen.

“Snow Day is one of our favorite events we look forward to,” said preschool director Marie Hook. “Because it doesn’t snow in Hawaii, we love seeing the look of excitement on the students faces especially when it’s their first time seeing snow.”

“It’s a wonderful way to usher in the holiday season,” said parent and event co-chair Junko Yuen. “The presence of ‘snow’ really does make it feel like winter and that the magic of Christmas is just around the corner.”

The children were also treated to hot cocoa and a visit by Santa.
