Hundreds of families celebrated the new year early Thursday at the Children’s Discovery Center in Kakaako, complete with an apple juice toast and a balloon drop at noon.
The center holds this “New Year’s at Noon” event every year for little ones who are not able to make it to midnight.
The kids also got a chance to play and do some arts and crafts.
Center spokeswoman Loretta Yajima said “the kids were making noise makers ’cause they’re not up to see the fireworks display, so we make our own here, and they make New Year crowns.
Yajima estimates about 500 to 600 people participated in today’s event.
