Keck Observatory records proof of cool gas in galaxy

The Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea has recorded the first-ever proof that filaments of cool gas spiral into young galaxies. In other words, supplying the fuel for stars.

Scientists have known that galaxies grow by gathering up gas from their surroundings and turning that gas into stars.

But details and data had been murky until the latest observations by the Keck Cosmic Web Imager.
