After being told nearly two months ago to shut down, vacation rental owners and operators in the Kalapana area on the Big Island.
The owners are now being allowed to start their businesses back up again.
The Big Island civil defense notified the owners Tuesday via their daily emergency announcements.
KHON2 spoke to one vacation rental owner who said she was really excited to hear the news.
“I was elated,” said vacation rental owner Iliahi Curtis. “I was really happy. I ended up calling civil defense themselves to verify that it was real. So I was really excited to hear. Then they said, ‘yes, it was true’ that they’re opening it up the next day.”
Meanwhile, county officials say Fissure 8 continues to be very active.
There was also a collapse and explosion this morning at Kilauea summit.
