The Kailua man accused of stealing close to $180,000 intended to help disabled people pleaded guilty in federal court Friday.

Mitchell Keawe, aka Kimo Keawe, was the former executive director of the now-defunct Hawaii Centers for Independent Living, a charity that provide social services for the disabled.

Prosecutors said Keawe embezzled more than $179,000 over a two-year period between October 2011 to December 2013.

He will be sentenced in October.
